Bridgeport Middle School Students Visit Veterans Memorial Park of Jackson County

Bridgeport Middle School’s 7th and 8th-grade students recently embarked on an educational journey to the Veterans Memorial Park of Jackson County. The visit provided the students with a unique opportunity to delve into the history of our nation and the sacrifices made by our veterans.

During the visit, the students learned about the freedoms we enjoy and The Real Price of Freedom. Tour guides instructed the students on how to show the proper respect to the Fallen. They were introduced to the Constitution and the fundamental lesson that Freedom is Not Free. This experience allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of the values that our veterans fought for and the importance of remembering their sacrifices.

In addition to learning about our nation’s history, the students also explored potential career paths in the military. This exposure provided them with insights into the discipline, dedication, and commitment required in military service.

One of the highlights of the visit was the Huey exhibit at the park. The restored Huey helicopter continues to be a hit among visitors. During the tour, the students had the opportunity to explore the inside of the Huey.  Veterans were available to answer student questions about their military experiences, giving them insight to the use and capability of military equipment.

Bridgeport Middle School teacher, Don Whisenant, further enriched the learning experience by giving the students a 10-question test to complete after the visit. This exercise allowed the students to reflect on their learnings and solidify their understanding of the topics covered.

Mr. Whisenant expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the visit and is looking forward to bringing other students to the Veterans Memorial Park of Jackson County in the Fall. He believes that these visits play a crucial role in educating our youth about our nation’s history and the importance of honoring our veterans.

In conclusion, the field trip to the Veterans Memorial Park of Jackson County was not only an educational experience for the Bridgeport Middle School students but also a day of remembrance and respect for our nation’s heroes. To learn more and schedule a tour of group or class visit.vmpjc.com.###
